The former U.S. President created a firestorm during a panel discussion at the National Association of Black Journalists national convention Wednesday in Chicago when saying immigrants crossing the American border are "taking Black jobs."
“A lot of the journalists in this room I know, and I have great respect for, a lot of the journalists in this room are Black,” Trump said as the audience laughed. “I will tell you that coming from the border are millions and millions of people that happen to be taking Black jobs.”
The backlash has been great toward the Republican presidential candidate, with Biles, an African-American woman, being one of the latest firing back at Trump on X (formerly Twitter).
The most decorated gymnast ever, Biles quoted a tweet from singer Ricky Davila that read "being the GOAT, winning Gold medals and dominating gymnastics is her black job."
Biles, 27, won the women's all-around final to become the third female gymnast to win two Olympic all-around titles and the first to ever do so in non-consecutive Olympic Games. Phoenix Suns duo Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry, Boston Celtics guard Jrue Holiday and Indiana Pacers point guard, representing Team USA men's basketball, were in attendance Wednesday.
"It's hard to put to words if you weren't in there," Booker said as he filmed Biles with his camcorder. "Unbelievable experience. You can instantly feel that you're part of history. Incredible performance all around. I'm happy I got to see it and document it."
Trump was later asked during the convention to explain what "a Black job" is.
“A Black job is anybody that has a job. That’s what it is. Anybody that has a job,” Trump said. “They’re taking the employment away from Black people.”
